Dear Daham Meslat:

Education is a key component in achieving goals. Without it, someone cannot accomplish much and your life might not turn out the way you hope it would. Education allows someone to pursue their goals and dreams they have set for themselves. Sometimes on the journey of success, someone may encounter obstacles or setbacks that prevent them from reaching their goals. Depending on how strong someone’s desire is to achieve their goals and dreams, they may allow these setbacks to hold them back. It all depends on if the person has enough desire to overcome such obstacles.

Goals and dreams can never become reality without hard work. The time and dedication that is spent working towards goals and dreams will increase the chances that they come true. Long hours must be spent studying to be educated in the career path that someone wishes to pursue. Those long hours that are spent studying, will show that someone has the desire and dedication to pursue their goals and dreams. Someone may ask, “Why are long hours required and what is the point to studying?” Both those questions can be answered with one word and that is “Knowledge.” Knowledge of something determines if someone knows enough about certain subject to pursue that subject as a career. One of my favorite sayings I have hears is, “The more you know, the faster you can go.” This saying holds true to what it says. Indeed, the more someone knows, the faster they will be on their way to what they desire.

As I have previously mentioned, in order for a dream or goal to become reality, action must be taken. The best action that can be taken is studying, for it is what provides someone with the knowledge they need to succeed. There may be times when an obstacle presents itself, but that must not stop someone in pursuing a goal or dream. A goal and a dream are just a desire, but not reality until action is taken by the person who desires success. Never let any obstacle prevent or stop the journey to success.

Yours sincerely,

Daham meslat

To Forgive

I look back and think
What if I just let it go
I look back and think
What if I had not told you no

I look back and think
Why did I turn you away
I look back and think
It could have ended a different way

I look back and think
Could forgivness have been the way
I look back and think
Could I have forgived you and caused you to stay

Love and Compassion

Love and compassion play a very essential role in the human experience. The only question is why do these two factors play such an important role? The three main reasons for the importance of these two factors is they builds trust, happiness, and good communication. Trust is not something that is just given, but rather earned through determination or devotion to an important factor. Trust is not built over night, but rather through a period time. To trust someone is to be able to know that they will are willing to take responsibility when they are called upon or entrusted with a task. To trust someone is to be able to know they will be there when you require them to be. Trust is a strong factor in the process of developing love and showing compassion for someone or something you have in your life.

Happiness is the second important factor in building love and compassion. How is Happiness achieved? Everyone achieves happiness a different way, but in the context of love and compassion it means to know that you will have someone there for you to make you happy when you are feeling depressed or someone there to help you achieve success. Happiness also means a person will have someone there for them even in the worst of times.

Communication is extremely important into building the stage of love or compassion. Communication will help you tell any information that a person will need to know, which leads me back to my point of trust. Knowing you can tell someone a personal matter and trusting them leads to the stage of love or compassion in the human experience. Communication is all about being able to tell and entrust someone with what has been told to them and knowing they can do the same. This is why communication is important.

Who Takes Responsibility?

In a situation where something bad were to occur and I was involved, while knowing others were involved, I think responsibility should be taken by all. For example, if I helped someone else take something from someone, I believe I should take some responsibility. I believe this because I do not believe it would be fair to claim that I am the sole person responsible behind the situation, while knowing that someone else was involved. Even if it means that that person may no longer be friends with me, I still feel it is only fair if both of us were to take responsibility for the action that has been committed, if it involves both of us. How I determine if I should take responsibility is that if I am involved in the action and caused some kind of contribution towards making the action occur, then I will take some responsibility. In a situation where, I see the action happening and I am not involved, I do not believe that I should take the responsibility, unless I know I could have done something to stop it. This is how I am able to know if I should claim responsibility or not.

The Cloning Project

A project I spent a great deal of time on was a video project I did with my friend Tyler. The idea of the video was that I am cloned and I show up everywhere he goes. We gathered the equipment necessary and we went to work. We had many shots were we had to be extremely precise and these were the parts of the film were the cloning would happen. After this was done, we used a program call Adobe After Effects to edit our video. There was one scene in which I was walking past myself and we had to make it look like I was not going through myself. So what happened is that we had to mask around my body. Masking is the process of making parts in a video that are not required to be removed. So by masking around my body I was able to remove this. This was the most difficult part of the project because it took about thirty minutes. In the end, the final product was a success and I had a good time filming.

Explorers Through The Ages

Through the ages, many people have traveled the world in different ways. In the earlier ages, people traveled through ships to reach their destination. On these travels, people would face some difficulties. An example could be storms that occurred while they were sailing. A historical figure I like to recall when thinking of  travel in the earlier ages is Christopher Columbus. He made an important contribution by discovering America. As time progressed, people began to build more advanced ship structures and flying through planes. The better the ship, the farther people could go and discover new areas of the world. This led to new discoveries and helpful material that is used today. For example, by exploring, people have discovered plants that cure certain illnesses. These plants could only exist in one environment, so people had to go and explore in order to find them.

Every person has different reasons for exploring, but I believe they all have similar goals they hope to achieve on their explorations. On their explorations, they want to discover new information they can share with the world about a certain area and what positives it can hold. These discoveries could interest others to also go and discover new information about the unknown in the world. These discoveries could lead to new cures and materials from the native species that have been discovered on the island. Not only this, but people can learn in what kind of conditions certain aspects of the environment grow in in order, so that they may grow it in their own home country. The common goal of all people that go to discover or devote themselves to solving the unknown , in my opinion, are to gain knowledge. Knowledge is a key aspect in a society trying to advance in life. This is why people devote themselves to finding or learning about the unknown.

With devotion to discover the unknown comes sacrifice. If you are leaving your home to discover the unknown, you are leaving behind your family and friends. An expedition into the unknown does not have a set date on how long it will take until a return back home. So, a person will not know how long they are going to be away from their friends and family. Another sacrifice would be leaving behind their life. They would be missing out on special events in their life, such as birthdays and holidays. Instead of these activities, they would be spending much time  dedicated to studying and gathering information. Discovering the unknown has negatives, as mentioned, but I believe that gaining knowledge can help overcome that.

Truth vs. Lie

In some difficult situations, some people may not know what to do, especially if they have done an action that they are not proud of. The question that many people have a hard time answering in this kind of situation is whether they should tell the truth or just lie about whatever they have done. If I was put in this situation, I would have to tell the truth. The biggest reason for why I would have to tell the truth is because when I do not tell the truth, I begin to feel guilt. The longer I wait to tell the truth, the more guilt that begins to build upon me. I think it does not happen just in my situation. I believe it happens too most people if they were put in a situation where they knew they or someone has done something and they do not tell the truth. An example of this is if someone dropped ten dollars on the floor and they continued walking without knowing that they dropped the money, I would pick it up and give it back to them. I would have to give it back to them because if I did not and kept the money, I would feel very guilty because I have done an action that I am not proud of. Another example of this would be if I saw a friend take an item from someone and the person did not know about it, then I would have to tell the truth because if I did not, then I would begin to feel very guilty for not reporting the action to someone.
With my position to tell the truth in a difficult situation, there are pros and cons. One pro for telling the truth in my situation would be that I would not face the feeling of guilt. Having a guilty feeling is very difficult, especially when knowing that I have done something wrong. Not feeling guilt is a very big relief. Another pro of telling the truth is it shows that I am an honest person. If people know I am an honest person, they will trust me more. A con of telling the truth would be that some people will be very angry at me for doing an action that I cannot be proud of. Another con of telling the truth would be that some people might not trust me, which depends on who the situation is involving. I believe if the situation involves my friend, they might be more understanding then someone who I do not know. This is why I choose to tell the truth in a difficult situation.

My High School Experience

During high school, I always hope to achieve the best, but I may find myself running into struggles along the way. I, like many others faced struggles in high school, but also have experienced success. During my high school experience I have encountered academic struggles, accomplishments, and aspirations.

During my high school experience I have encountered academic struggles. One example of this would be my bad study habits. I sometimes find it difficult to study for  classes because I feel that if I already know the material, why should I study. Another example would be procrastination. Rather than studying for a quiz or test two or three days in advance, i find myself studying the day before the test. A third example would be my success on Physical Science tests. I find that the grades that I get on the test are not usually what i hope they are, although I have tried hard to understand the material.

Through my high school experience I have also encountered academic success. One example of this would be my report card. I usually get A's and B's, which I think is a good report card. Another example would be my knowledge in Math. I perform well in math and I understand the material well. How I know this is when I take the tests I find that I get A's and B's. I also am good in History. I also understand the material that is being taught and I usually get A's on the tests and quizzes.

I also have academic aspirations set for the rest of my high school experience. One aspiration would be trying to get all A's on my report card. I can achieve this through hard work and staying organized. Another aspiration would be to improve on my study habits. By improving my study habits, I will be able to understand material better for my classes. A third aspiration is to achieve a high GPA. A good GPA could get me into a good college.

During my high school experience i have witnessed academic struggles, accomplishments, and aspirations. My academic struggles are just obstacles in the way that I can overcome as time progresses. My academic accomplishments are good, but I feel that I can improve to become even better in school. Lastly, my aspirations can be accomplished if I truly work to improve myself to become the best I can be.

My Voice On Bullying

There are many reasons why people bully others. I believe the biggest reason people bully others are to take away confidence. Bullies try to take away confidence to make someone feel as if they are worth nothing or no one cares for them. Some examples of how they do this is calling others names or telling false accusations about someone. They also bully online. They post things online that are cruel. The worst part of being bullied is that the victim goes to extremes because of being bullied and kills himself/herself or they do harmful actions to themselves.
I think someone would be more likely to take a stand on bullying in real life because more people can get involved and several different events or programs can be held to speak out against bullying. Some examples of this would be going to schools and raising awareness about bullying or organizing some kind of rally against bullying. These kinds of actions could help others take a stand against bullying and lead to further action to support a stand against bullying. This could possibly lower bullying and stop the cruel violence known as bullying.
If I witnessed someone being bullied, I would immediately inform an adult or if there is no adult, I would try to stop it myself. Bringing an adult would immediately stop whatever action was occurring. An adult can contribute to whatever type of bullying is going on. This is what I would do if I witnessed someone being bullied.

Taking From Others

I believe it is not right for people to take items that do not belong to them. I feel if someone were to find twenty dollars on the floor and not ask anyone if it belongs to them, it is not acceptable. If that person were to actually ask if the twenty dollar bill belonged to anyone and no one claimed it, then they can have the money. The idea I am trying to inform people is that stealing is not acceptable. If someone were to think that taking something without permission is acceptable, they have made a big mistake. In order for someone to take something that does not belong to them, they must first ask the person who owns it or if there is no owner, they should ask others around them if they know to who the dollar belong to.
I think it would be right to take things away from people who take things that do not belong to them. I would only go along with this idea if the person took the item in a manner of stealing. In this case, the person would know who the item belongs to or do not want to ask others around them to who the item belongs to and take it anyways. If they asked before they took the item, then it would be acceptable. This is what my opinion is on taking items from others.

Putting Life on the Line

Everyone has a different reason on why they would risk their life to help someone else. I think that people risk their lives for others because as life goes on, they want to remember that they have done a good deed. Someone knowing they have done a good deed makes them feel very happy. The big part of the deed they have done is that they put their life on the line to help someone in danger, knowing that they could possibly be severely injured or killed. This reason would mean very much to whoever put their life at risk for the sake of helping another in need. Someone knowing they have done a major deed such as risking their life will make them happier. Life for that person could not be well, but knowing they have done such a major action that has positively influenced their life and the life of another, will make that person more happy and confident. This is why I believe someone would put their life at risk for someone else.

Although saving someone is a very impactful event in the life of a person, they must first consider their own life before saving someone else. They would consider themselves first because they might have family or friends that they care about and knowing the risk that they might be severely injured, could leave that person reconsidering their decision. Someone who would consider themselves first must have something that might hold them back from doing such a big task of putting their life in danger. Everyone should always consider their own life before putting their life at risk. This is why someone might look out for themselves first.

Who I Want To Meet

If I could meet someone from the present, it would be Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy is a very funny and well known person. I enjoy the movies that he has played a role in. One of my favorite movies he has played a role in is, " A Thousand Words." One reason I would want to meet him is to ask him how he got started in his acting career and what kind of things I should do if I choose to pursue a career in acting.

Another reason I would want to meet Eddie Murphy is to know how much work and time it takes to make a movie. I would like to see how the editing is done and how an actor does the voice for an animated character in a movie. For example, I would want to see how Eddie Murphy makes the voice for the character Donkey in the Shrek Movies.

A third reason why I would want to meet Eddie Murphy is to learn about how he got started in his comedy career and who inspired him. By asking this , I would learn how comedians begin their careers and understand the process they go through to have a succesful career in comedy. This is why I want to meet Eddie Murphy.

My Vacation

There are several events I did over vacation. One event I did over my vacation was go sledding. I went with my two brothers, sister, and cousin. My cousin was visiting from Washington D.C., so my Mother decided to take him sledding. We went to a park in Westlake. When we arrived, there were many people. Since there were so many people, it was a little hard to find a spot on the hill. After we found a spot, we began to sled. I sled down with my little sister because it was her second time going sledding. A challenge we faced while sledding, was trying to avoid the people in the way. When I went down the hill the second time, I almost hit someone, which caused me to fall of the sled. Another challenge we faced was avoiding not slipping on the hill. The top of the hill was partially covered by ice and we almost slipped. My cousin really enjoyed the experience and we all had a good time.
